About theProject
The DEEPLAB project looks at how climate change and deep decarbonisation will reshape Slovakia's economy and labour market. Our focus is on hard-to-abate industries—such as steel, cement, and chemicals—where cutting emissions is particularly challenging, as well as on their wider supply chains.
We ask a simple but urgent question:
What will happen to jobs and skills as Slovakia moves toward net zero?
To answer it, we combine two approaches:
Data and modelling
Using advanced input–output analysis to see how different decarbonisation pathways could affect industries and employment by 2030, 2040, and 2050.
Dialogue and engagement
Working with companies, unions, and policymakers to understand real-world perspectives and co-create strategies for a just transition.
The project is supported by the Slovak National Recovery and Resilience Plan and is designed to produce both scientific insights and practical recommendations.
At its heart, DEEPLAB is about connecting evidence with people: using rigorous research to help Slovakia prepare for the future of work, while ensuring that no worker or community is left behind in the green transition.
